The Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy, in partnership with the University of the Philippines, the Mindanao State University and the Dr. Jovito R. Salonga Center for Law and Development will be conducting the first follow-through event of the Philippine campaign supporting “Stand with Women Peacebuilders” on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This event, themed “Women in Transition”, launches the “Women, Peace and Security in the Bangsamoro” series, an activity supporting the global Peacebuilders campaign for this year.
The campaign will gather support to, among others:
1. Secure women peacebuilders and their work through improving threat assessment, protection mechanisms, and care at all levels;
2. Continue efforts to institutionalize the WPS agenda and principles through policy and legislation, including through national laws and intra-governmental processes.
With the above objectives in mind, and as our commemoration of women’s month, we are holding an earnest discussion on the status of women in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), particularly their engagement in the debate over political issues like the extension of the transition period and postponement of the 2022 regional elections. The discussants will be led by Commissioner Maria Rowena Amelia V. Guanzon of the Commission on Elections. Also invited are Chancellor Bai Hejira M. Limbona of the Mindanao State University-Maguindanao, Member of Parliament of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority-BARMM, MP Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph, and Board Member Charina Izquierdo-Isahac of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Sulu. Reactors include Dr. Aurora J. de Dios, Senior Adviser of the Women and Gender Institute of Miriam College and Dr. Socorro L. Reyes, Senior Regional Governance Adviser of the Center for Legislative Development.
We are honored to invite you to attend this lively virtual discussion on March 30, 2021.
