The Woman In Youth Service Awardee

Jalilah “Jai” S. Hadji Sapiin devoted her life in teaching across all learner levels in formal and informal settings. She is the Founder of “Super Lumba,” a youth-led organization which actively works with the marginalized sectors in Lanao del Sur. The organization is recognized as one of this year’s Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations and a Senator Pangilinan’s “Kilos Ko” Awardee for Agro-Enterprise and Women Empowerment. Jalilah is the Program Head of “Project Sindao,” a peace formation program that aims to provide safe spaces to children IDPs and youth affected by conflict. These two initiatives received regional and national recognitions.

She was named as the Batch Valedictorian in the first Angat Buhay Young Leaders in Government Fellowship (ABYLGF) of the Office of the Vice-President and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. She in a national nominee of the Search for Hometown Heroes Awards 2019 of Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation. This young Maranao is a fellow of the Future Bridging Leadership Program 2 (2018) of the Asian Institute of Management and Bangsamoro Young Leaders Program–Leadership Communities (2016) of the ARMM Office of the Regional Governor, Ayala Foundation, and Eisenhower Fellows of the Philippines.

She is a graduate of AB English, MAEd in School Administration, MAEd in Guidance and Counselling, and Master of Public Administration and is currently taking her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management. Currently, she is a public school teacher in one of the schools in the province. Despite her work, Jai engaged herself in volunteer and civic work.

Jai is the youngest member of the Marawi Reconstruction Conflict Watch (MRCW) of International Alert Philippines, an independent multi-stakeholder dialogue group that channels wider public attention and participation in the monitoring of the Marawi reconstruction process. She is a model for Muslim-Christian unity as she is working in different programs with other youth leaders in the country. She is connected with various organizations that work with youth participation, women empowerment, peace-building and conflict resolution, active volunteerism and good governance. She is with Teach Peace Build Peace Movement, National Youth Volunteers’ Coalition, Social Hub for Education, Ranao Council, Inc., and more.

Jai is a dedicated Moro woman who uses her voice to influence positive change in communities. She believes that women play an important role in supporting a peaceful, sustainable and progressive society. She hopes for people to be more open and understanding even if they view things differently.

After the series of assessment, Jai rose at the top among equally awesome nominees. The nominees were scored based on the following criteria:

Leadership

She has demonstrated leadership by using her abilities to develop or improve a program or service to her community or organization.  Her contributions required cooperative efforts of other individuals, departments, and agencies. She has successfully demonstrated her abilities as an individual a team member, and a leader. She has demonstrated a willingness to serve and assist other women in their personal and professional development and contributed to the successes of others as well as her own.

Community Commitment

The candidate has demonstrated a commitment to her community by sharing her time and talent in ways that benefit the community or individuals within it. She has demonstrated exceptional personal commitment to civic endeavours outside of her professional obligations.

Educational Accomplishment

The candidate has demonstrated a commitment to life-long learning and expansion of her own personal and professional resources, for example she has sought an expansion of knowledge by pursuing a formal degree plan or by participating in selected educational opportunities

specific to her career and position.

Volunteerism Engagement

The candidate should have a “sense of volunteerism” both in her work and her community to serve the people. Her willingness to lend free services to people cannot just measure because she loved volunteer engagement.
