Resumption of BTA Third Regular Session No. 59
June 17, 2021
Highlights:
The consolidated PRs 431, 432, 433, and 434, expressing support for the Palestinian people and condemning the actions of the Israeli government were passed as a simple resolution. There was a discussion on the need for having a concrete policy by the Bangsamoro Government in order to support Palestine, such as in the form of a boycott of Israeli products.
PRs 438 and 442, which commended Reverend Fr. Eliseo Mercado for his role and contributions to the peace and development of the Bangsamoro, as well as expressed condolences for his death, were treated as simple resolutions and passed. Many MPs expressed their sympathies and commiserated with the bereaved family.
BTA Parliament Bill No. 36, AN ACT TO INSTITUTIONALIZE POLICIES FOR BANGSAMORO OVERSEAS EMPLOYMENT AND ESTABLISHING A STANDARD OF PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF THE WELFARE OF OVERSEAS BANGSAMORO WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES, or the Bangsamoro Overseas Workers Act, was passed on its third and final reading, after nominal voting by the Members of Parliament.
MP Maisara Latiph who was part of the TWG which worked on the bill, as well as being a Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Labor, explained her vote of “YES” for the bill. She celebrated the passage of the bill, emphasizing its value for Bangsamoro Overseas Workers, especially for women and children as it provides measures for their protection.
It was mentioned during plenary session that a hard bound copy of the House Rules of the BTA Parliament shall be available for members by Friday.
There were some MPs who raised concerns about some Parliament committees which were not yet activated, such as the Ways and Means Committee and the Blue Ribbon Committee, among others. MP Maisara Latiph raised her concern about the activation of the Bangsamoro Justice System Committee so that resolutions tackling the Shari’ah and Traditional Justice (for non-Moro IPs) system could finally be deliberated on. Majority Floor Leader Atty. Lanang Ali Jr. reassured the plenary that all Committees would be activated.
Session was adjourned until June 22, 2021, Tuesday.
