Care for Orphans
On 24 November 2019, the “Care for Orphans” activity gathered sixty (60) orphans (Darul Aitam) ranging at the age of 6-14 years old who were displaced by armed conflict and calamity from Lanao del Sur. They are presently housed in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte.
Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Baloi, Lanao del Norte represent a significant population worldwide, enduring poor health and living conditions. However, the main goal of the Care for Orphans Movement initiated by our office is to support the salient features of the Magna Carta Act of Children in BARMM especially for our orphans that address the following issues such as protection, survival, development, and participation of our children in our society, we reached out to the orphans with good hygiene (e.g. handwashing), self-protection awareness and play therapy.
The activity was also intended to understand better the plight of orphans who seemed to have been forgotten by society. Through games and creative, non-invasive interactions, we somehow captured some of the problems, critical needs and recommendations from the orphans themselves as well as their carers. At the end of the day, the orphans received hygiene kits, grocery items and pairs of slippers.
This movement aims not only to give specific items based on their identified needs but also to capture and consult the current situations and status quo of the orphans. It is one-way to identify the keynotes that will serve as guidelines in drafting bills addressing mostly the long issues and concerns of the orphaned children in the BARMM Region. This kind of program is in aid of legislation seeking to give them attainable solutions, sustainable services and offer more opportunities for them.
