NATIONAL FLAG DAY OF THE PHILIPPINES

May 28, 2022

The Philippines celebrates National Flag Day today (May 28). It marks the first time the Philippine flag was flown following the Battle of Alapan in 1898.

Emilio Aguinaldo, a Filipino revolutionary, designed the current national flag of the Philippines in 1897.

The Philippine Revolutionary Army defeated the Spanish forces in the Battles of Alapan, Imus, and Cavite in 1898, and the Philippine Revolutionary Army issued Presidential Proclamation No. 374 on March 6, 1965, proclaiming May 28 as National Flag Day.

Executive Order No. 79 was issued on May 23, 1994, extending the National Flag Day celebrations from May 28 to June 12.
