30 December 2020 – MP Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph visited the Grand Chess Master, Al-Basher “Basty” Buto, together with her staffs to personally commend and award this very rare talent at a young age.
The office of MP Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph in coordination with the Bangsamoro Sports Commission handed to Basty a cash gift worth (10,000) ten thousand pesos and chess sporting materials worth of (10,000) ten thousand pesos also with jacket, t’shirt and cap. Basty is a 10 year old kid from Ditsaan Ramain, Lanao del Sur, BARMM.
In 2017, at the age of 7, Basty garnered gold medal at the Asean Youth Chess Championships. The young prodigy’s whirlwind schedule of chess competitions here and abroad had been well-publicized. Last month, he qualified for the FIDE Online World Cadets and Youth Rapid Championships.
According to MP Maisara, “Talking to his father was a privilege that is very rare. I felt his faith and sincerity in supporting Basty to succeed to make it as World Champion. Success did not come easy for their family. A lot of personal sacrifices had to be made. I am glad to be there as an official of Bangsamoro as well as a fellow parent.”
MP Maisara representing the Bangsamoro Government recognize the talent of the young Chess Master and to encourage them to continue their noble endeavors. He was one of the representative of our country in championing the Chess game.
