On August 5, 2022, The Bangsamoro Transition Authority’s Committee on Health convened a public consultation on BTA Bill No. 123 to adequately and effectively address the health concerns of the Bangsamoro people.
The bill, according to COH Committee Chair MP Saffrullah Dipatuan, proposes the establishment of a municipal hospital with 25 beds to provide modern healthcare services and facilities to the people of Butig and surrounding towns.
During the consultation, the bill’s main author, MP Maisara Dandamun-Latiph, explained that the municipality of Butig is in a remote part of Lanao del Sur, with limited access to healthcare and medical services.
If approved, Butig’s proposed municipal hospital will provide emergency, outpatient, and domiciliary care.
MP Latiph requests that the bill be approved as soon as possible because hospitals play an important role in the healthcare system and development. She also said that Butig deserves the influx of development in the region because it is the most affected area during the decades old conflict in the region.
The consultation was attended by representatives from various sectors, including Butig’s barangay and local government unit, health, education, security, religion, women, and youth sectors.
