March 19, 2022| Member of the Parliament Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph attended the Peace Education Training for the Colleges of Education of the Mindanao State University System (MSUS) by the Miriam College Center for Peace Education (MC-CPE) supported by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) and Initiatives for International Dialogue (IID) today via Zoom Teleconference.
MP Latiph was invited as a resource person and the said program is facilitated by Dr. Loreta N. Castro.
MP Latiph discussed the Current Mindanao Peace Context – including a Brief Historical Background and Promoting Peace Education in Mindanao: Challenges and Prospects – including Highlights of the BARMM Education Code.
MP Latiph expressed her appreciation to the Center for Peace Education and the Mindanao State University System (MSUS) for conducting activities and training like the said program.
MP Latiph emphasized “Peace really is a state of mind – it’s a state of heart, it’s a state of soul. You cannot give what you do not have, that’s the basic tenet. So, as peace educators we must first educate our heart, our mind, and our soul on what peace truly means. We’ve mentioned so many principles of peace – harmonious living, tolerance, respect for diversity, nonviolence as an alternative, and also some teachings of our church, our religion, of our mosque, of Buddhism – all of these are very helpful to make us more peaceful individuals. So, I believe aside from this formal instruction, we seek out other mechanisms to make ourselves at peace with the world and with each other.“
