FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSION ON SIYAP KO RANAW IN AID OF LEGISLATION
July 3, 2021| The Office of MP Atty. Maisara Dandamun-Latiph conducts its Focus Group Discussion on Lake Lanao.
This program aims to gather data on the issues, concerns and recommendations for the preservation of the Lake Lanao. This is also in support for the Proposed Bill on the Creation of Ranao Development Authority.
Participants are from Academe, Government Offices, and Youth Organizations such as MSU Mountaineering Club Inc., National Power Corporation, Butig Youth Movement for Peace, Alshabaab Alhaalimun, MSU-CFES, RYTK, BIOPHIL, Moriatao O Ranaw, LGU-Marantao MENRO, PENRO-PLGU, and CENRO-2A.
The program involves (2) discussions from the invited resource persons. The first discussion was about “Lake Lanao As Beneficial Component of the Environment” presented by Professor Hanan T. Khabab. The second discussion was about “The Current issues and concern on Forest Protection in the Province of Lanao del Sur” presented by Forester Asnawi A. Dataman, MSES, the CENRE Officer of 1st district, Lanao del Sur.
Among the Key Result Areas involve: 1. The issues, factors, and activities that are affecting adversely (negatively) affecting the health of Lake Lanao, 2. Causes the activities that negatively affect the lake, 3. Existing government actions regarding the issues on the lake, Programs focusing on protecting, preserving and conserving of Ranaw, and 4. Suggestions and recommendations.
“We, Meranaws, must be the first people to care for our natural resources. Those resources benefit us in a manner that we do not even realize. And what scares me the most is the fact that some people may forget that there are also people who will be living after them, that there are people who will either suffer or enjoy their surroundings, that there are children who may not be able to see the scenic beauty of Lake Lanao and the freshwater that flows in some areas of Lanao del Sur.”, said by MP Atty. During the FGD, Atty. Abdul Jabbar Guro also gave an update on the Bangsamoro Parliament and BTA Bill No. 32 entitled, “An Act Creating the Ranao Development Authority Prescribing Its Power and Functions and Appropriating Funds Therefor.”
