FEATURE | SIYM PROJECT DECORATIONS AND PROGRAMS 2020

The blessed month of Ramadan is the most awaited month of every muslim as Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: Every action a son of Adam does shall be multiplied a good action by ten times its value, up to 700 times. This hadith inspires muslim to do good deeds and be their best for the pleasure of Almighty Allah. Lucky is the one who reached the month of Ramadan.

We always refer the month as visitor and just like the expected very important visitor we must be prepared for its arrival. The Sugod I Islamic Youth Movement is the organization who has a great part every upcoming holy month of Ramadan. They always make sure that our places specifically, Barangay Sugod I, Barangay Pagalamatan, and Barangay Pindolonan II are cleaned and beautified. This is also what the Islam encouraged: cleanliness is next to godliness. Month before the Ramadan SIYM planned and assigned tasks like, solicitation for the budget, cleaning, setting decorations, putting on street lights, Ramadan Islamic seminar, and eid program. This Ramadan 2020 has been a great challenge for the SIYM because of the health crisis, they supposed to go and to solicit for fund, usually they go as far as Cebu City but because of COVID 19 that never happened, also the income of regular donors here and abroad are affected by the pandemic and the organization feel ashamed to ask, but indeed when you are doing something beneficial for the sake of Almighty ALLAH everything becomes easy.

The help and support of the Office of Member of the Parliament Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph, Bangsamoro Transition Authority and the chairmen: barangay chairman of Sugod 1, Tugaya Hon. Faisal Natangcop, barangay Pagalamatan, Tugaya Hon. Usman Hadji Zaman, and the barangay chairman of Pindolonan, Tugaya Hon. Habib Satar was a heaven sent to the SIYM. It really saved the time, worries and burden.

The help and support of MP Maisara Dandamun-Latiph and the chairmen of Metro Sugod, the SIYM managed to continue their yearly project decorations and programs for the holy month of Ramadan, such as roads and streets decorations, and clean up drive. Ramadan Night Islamic Seminar and Eid Celebration were cancelled because of threat of COVID 19. Instead there was an iftar program, Qur’an Competition, and pamphlets distribution. To make sure that everyone is safe. The organization fully observed and followed the COVID 19 guidelines and protocols set by the government.

When they ask about their aims in the organization. A representative said “Giyangkae a mga galbk tano na para sii ko kapakapiya o ingud tano, an maaadn so kaiisaisa, kalilintad ago kapakamaradeca sii rki, tano aya mala na so kalumbayan aya samporna iyan ni sii ko sambi a masa kalo kalo na an iran mitataros so mga pipiya a galbk tano, aya mala suwasuwat tano aya ko Allah”. What we are doing is for the benefit of our community for these will promote unity, peace, and development among us especially the youth, and for the next generation for them to continue our work. “Piyananggilaan ami piya piya sa okit a giya COVID-19 na di makaalang ko galbk ami a mangapipiya sii ko kaparatiyaya ami ko mga inusugo o goberno, miyagsocial distyancing kami ago nganin san. Sabap sa giyangkae a mga galbk ami na di dapat mitareg sabap sa giyae so ganat rkami o miyanga-oonaan ami”. We find ways that this COVID-19 will not stop us in doing good in our community by following the order of the government, we follow social distancing and others. Because what we are doing should never be stop because this was a task inherit to us by our elders, he added.

Through the years SIYM has been a partner of the community in attaining peace, camaraderie, and development. In 1955, after Tugaya was hit by an earthquake, the youth of Sugod 1 helped those people affected by the calamity through rebuilding their homes. During those days, this organization was more of a brotherhood helping the society and it was still nameless. In 1970, the Aleems of Sugod 1 that studied in abroad named the brotherhood as the Sugod 1 Islamic Youth Movement. Thus, making it an organization. And up to date, the organization is fully functioning in helping the community.
