However, prior to it’s approval, its parliamentary status was in the period of interpellation and debate.
Some members of the parliament argued that a mereposition paper would suffice and a resolution aimed at supporting the bill pending before Congress declaring February 1 as Hijab Day is unneccessary.
Moreover, some MPs posited thata Fatwa from the Darul Ifta is necessary before an action on the resolution could be taken.
MP Maisara, along with other women members of the parliament, were able to defend their position stating that women in the Parliament who will primarily benefit from the bill that pending in the Senate must show support as Bangsamoro Women Commission is invited by the Senate as a resource speaker of the Technical Working Group in-charge of enhancing the bill.
Moreover, MP Maisara argued that a Fatwa was already given by the BARMM Darul Ifta in support of the Hijab bill in the Congress
And added that National Hijab Dau provides additional protection to Muslim women by discouraging discrimination on women who wears Hijab.
It also aims to raise national awareness. The resolution, together with another (2) resolutions with the same content, were duly
adopted but had to undergone a voting that required the division of the house to which majority of the MPs voted in favor of said resolution.
