CARE FOR ORPHANS PUBLIC CONSULTATION IN AID OF LEGISLATION IN MAGUINDANAO AND COTABATO

May 31, 2021| The Office of MP Atty. Maisara Dandamun-Latiph in partnership with The Asia Foundation and Australian Aid conducted “2nd Care for Orphans Public Consultation in Aid of Legislation” held at Diamond Hall, EM Manor Hotel, Cotabato City.

Participants are from Markadj Nor, Markadj Badria, Markadj Abdul Rahman, Markadj Al-Arradz, Markadj Al-Qaadie, Darol Gale, Markadj Monera, Madrasah Barakah, Save the Children, Bangsamoro Emergency Action Team (BEAT), Kutawato City Arabic Students Association (KCASA), United Muslim Youth Organisation (UMYO), MBHTE, BWC, MSSD, STI Cotabato, and Office of MP Bainon.

The consultation aims to know more about issues, problems, gaps and challenges of orphans, and the individuals/institutions that support them; to gather inputs and data in aid of legislation concerning orphans; to provide a platform where participants can raise issues and concerns, and for them to suggest any recommendations/solutions to the BARMM Government, and this also in the support of the BTA Bill No. 71, or the Bangsamoro Orphanage Act 2021.

During the proper consultation, participants representing various NGOs/Institutions, Toril/Madrasa/ Agencies/Offices, Community Leaders, Widows and Orphans have shared issues, concerns and recommendations concerning the Bangsamoro Orphans.

On the first part of the session, the topic that was discussed is about “Children of War: A Rapid Needs Assessment of Orphans in Muslim Mindanao” that was presented by Bai Shaima Baraguir, Children of War Study Provincial Researcher.

On the second part of the session, BTA Parliament Bill No. 71 or the Bangsamoro Orphanage Act of 2020 was also presented by Atty. Alexine Bangcola, Legal Researcher of MP Atty. Maisara Latiph.

“We believe that through participative and informative consultations like these, we can improve our services, and address the concerns of orphans so that we can give them equitable solutions, programs, and opportunities.” As MP Maisara said during her Opening Remarks.
