March 26, 2022 | Member of the Parliament Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun – Latiph attended the Kanduli 2022 of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD). Some members of the Parliament shared their experiences from the WFD Programme.
MP Maisara during her talk, thanked the WFD for sharing to the members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority – Parliament the knowledge, lessons, and learnings necessary and helpful in building the foundations of a Parliament.
She mentioned that through the initiative of WFD, Members of the Parliament finished a series of Masterclasses which built our capacity in legislation, among which:
1. Budget Oversight Masterclass Session;
2. Evidence-Informed Masterclass;
3. IGR Masterclass Session;
4. Anti-Corruption Masterclass;
5. Open Government Partnership Masterclass;
6. Masterclass on Guide for Gender Transformative and Inclusive Legislation in the Bangsamoro.
She added that she’s also currently receiving a Committee Oversight mentorship from Lord Bruce and is now on their 5th Session.
The WFD interventions made a huge and positive contribution to the Bangsamoro Parliament. Indeed, she emphasized that she will carry and apply at all times all the parliament concepts that she learned especially the one about evidence-informed masterclass.
She even mentioned that there is a must to pursue and formulate policy for development not based on what we merely think but on what the evidence says or what the research based on scientific methods provides.
She believes that it is the basic formula upon which good democratic governments are built. It is the secret sauce to make sure that the democratic processes are truly observed.
