BARMM approves a measure creating the Bangsamoro Sustainable Development Board
On its third and final reading, Parliamentary Bill 53, which would have created the Bangsamoro Sustainable Development Board, was approved by a total of 55 members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority.
The bill was not opposed by any other lawmakers, and none of them chose to abstain.
Economic, social, and environmental factors will all be taken into account as essential components of sustainable development policy and practice in the Bangsamoro region according to BTA Bill No. 53, also known as the Bangsamoro Sustainable Development Board.
The Board’s duties and responsibilities include creating a comprehensive framework, coming up with policies and strategies, ensuring environmental justice and governance, and encouraging the efficient and responsible use of economic resources.
In accordance with the passed legislation, the Board will also consult with local and national government organizations operating in the region in order to address issues pertaining to sustainable development projects, programs, and policies.
The Senior Minister will preside over the Board, which will also be co-chaired by a representative of the National Government. Members of the Board will include the Ministers of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy, Interior and Local Government, Finance, and Budget and Management, as well as the Director-General of the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority and the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy.
The initial financing for the Board’s activities will be deducted from the Contingent Fund of the Bangsamoro’s 2022 General Appropriations Act, while funding for operations in subsequent years will be a part of MENRE’s regular budget.
