In many communities in the island provinces of the Bangsamoro region, water is hard to come by. This situation has led to a renewed focus of the Bangsamoro government on developing seawater as alternative sources of potable water.
So was statement of Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo, BARMM interior and local government minister and head of READi during the signing of the contracts for the provision, delivery, and installation of 10 units of desalination equipment for the island municipalities of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
“The machines will convert sea water into potable drinking water for these island municipalities which for generations have been deprived of potable water because no amount of drilling would yield potable water as it is surrounded by the Sulu sea,” the minister said.
Three units of desalination equipment worth P59, 995, 520 million which can produce 20k liters per day will be set up at Pata, Hadji Panglima Tahil, and Pandami in Sulu. Two units worth P23, 999, 360 million wil be set up in Pangutaran in Sulu while five units worth 59, 998, 400 million will be put up in Tawi-Tawi province, both projects can produce 10k liter of potable water respectfully.
The water project for waterless municipalities is funded by the Bangsamoro Government under the Chief Minister Al Haj Murad Ebrahim and implemented by the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government.
Present during the contract signing is Wet Industries Inc. operation manager Donna Paiso. Wet Industries Inc. is a water and waste company operating for 28 years whose office is based in San Pedro City, Laguna.
