MP Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph was invited to the launching of the Socioeconomic Impact Assessment of COVID-19 in BARMM (SEIA-BARMM) Report by the United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA). The report is a landmark report which provides actionable recommendations which will aid in the Bangsamoro Region’s Recovery Plan.
His Excellency Koshikawa Kazuhiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines, and Mr. Gustavo Gonazles, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in the Philippines, graced the event and delivered messages, while Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim delivered the Keynote Message.
Ms. Yemesrach Workie, UNDP Senior Policy Advisor presented the key findings of the report, with the full report soon to be available. The report tackled how the COVID-19 impacted the BARMM region across all sectors such as health, education, livelihood, and the economy. Although the impact of COVID-19 has been negative, the medium term prospects for 2021 to 2022 for BARMM is positive if significant investments with appropriate program implementing is done.
The panel discussion was moderated by Atty. Ishak Mastura, Chairman of the Regional Board of Investments in BARMM, with Members of Parliament Atty. Laisa Alaia, Minister of the Ministry of Social Services and Development, Atty. Raissa Jajurie, and Chairperson of the Bangsamoro Youth Commission, MP Marjanie Macasalong as panelists. Mr. Oyunsaikhan Dendevnorov, Representative of UNICEF Philippines, and Mr. Andrew Morris, Head of the UNICEF Field Office in Cotabato were also present as panelists.
