Highlights:
☑️The plenary tackled Proposed Resolution No. 367, a “Resolution Commending and Congratulating Atty. Anisah B. Amanodin-Umpa for her Appointment as an Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals”
☑️The resolution received unanimous support from the whole body. The sponsor of the resolution MP Zia Adiong recommended that every MP can be a principal author and not just co-authors.
☑️MP Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph, as well as other MPs, proposed amendments to improve the resolution. MP Latiph moved to close the period of interpellation so that the amendments could be discussed and incorporated in the resolution.
☑️MP Latiph proposed amendments to the whereas clauses to enhance the resolution. She proposed the following additional provisions, “Whereas, the Constitution guarantees the 1987 Constitution, upholds the fundamental equality before the law of women and men and recognizes the vital role of women in nation building. Thus, the Bangsamoro welcomes the appointment of Justice Amanodin-Umpa, the first Muslim woman appointee in operationalization of women’s vital role in nation-building.”
☑️She also proposed the provision, “Whereas, the operationalisation of women’s meaningful participation in matter affecting the affairs of the State is operationalized and given life by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in appointing another female justice in the Supreme Court.”
☑️She also proposed as an additional provision, “Whereas no less than the BOL provides that the Bangsamoro shall be represented, therefore the appointment by the President gives life to the provision of the BOL.”
☑️The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) approved proposed resolution No. 367.
