MARAWI CITY│Landslide in Marawi IDP area
Yesterday, 26 June 2020 at around 9 o’clock in the evening, the heavy rains caused a landslide near Boganga Temporary Shelter, Division 7 in Marawi City.
About 170 households were affected but no casualty reported. The City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) came right away to help the residents. Other agencies such as National Housing Authority (NHA), the Marawi City local government, Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), among other agencies, also responded.
The affected families were Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who were relocated from Sarimanok Tent City, Site I. One of the residents, Aisha Usman said, “Khagabi a kyangola-ola oto, myanga-oolog rkami so lapot. So ped rekami na daden toroga sa kiyalek iyan. Panalamat kami ko mga siringan ami ago so mga panabang a miyamakaoma sa oras oto.” (It was evening when the landslide happened. Other families were not able to sleep because of fear. We are thankful to our neighbors and to other agencies who helped us at that time.)
This morning, the Office of MP Atty. Maisara Dandamun-Latiph, through its IDP sectoral representative, Sittie Johara Pacalundo, visited for a rapid assessment.
The initial assessment finding is for them to be relocated to a safer area. Their relocation to the area is still subject to the availability of the shelters from the NHA. The IDPs also asked for immediate relief assistance.
