The office of Member of Parliament Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph in Partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism and the Local Government Unit of Tugaya, Lanao del Sur has begun the Cultural Mapping of tangible and intangible cultural assets of the partner municipality.
The Cultural Mapping project is one of the components of the Artisan Village Project. The Artisan Village Project aims to empower artisans, and conserve and preserve the Meranao culture and heritage in Tugaya, Lanao del Sur, through provision of equipment and technical training assistance in order to upgrade the production of arts in Tugaya.
The project aims to create a comprehensive Cultural Map of the Municipality of Tugaya to aid the 5th class municipality in attaining progress socially, economically and culturally.
In her message, MP Maisara said that there is a need to conserve and preserve the cultural assets of the Municipality of Tugaya through cultural mapping.
Through the conduct of cultural mapping, the Local Government Unit (LGU) and other stakeholders can identify the distinct cultural resources of their community and at the same time can properly record a heritage resource for future reference. Moreover, it would be of great help for the Municipality of Tugaya to be recognized as UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Home of Culture and Heritage.
