The office of Member of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament, Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph, partnered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform to secure food availability and security among the returnees and Islamic Torils in Lanao del Sur.
This effort, dubbed “Growing Seeds of Hope,” intends to provide locals with a long-term source of income as they reap the benefits of hope and resiliency.
The Bangsamoro is mostly an agricultural region with an agricultural economy. Agriculture’s contribution to the economy, both regionally and nationally, is undoubtedly the most significant. The proper utilization of agricultural land will benefit not only the Bangsamoro government but will also provide food for everyone.
Ensuring food and nutrition security is our greatest challenge, and one we must not fail at all times, especially in this trying time. In order to create the conditions for lasting food and nutrition security, our efforts must be sustainable economically, environmentally, and socially.
We must ensure that sufficient, safe, and nutritious foods are available for our consumption. Food must be available in adequate quantities to suit the needs of the general population, particularly the most vulnerable. As a result, it is critical that the agriculture sector be taken seriously when developing inclusive solutions.
We must always remember that farming is a skill that anyone can learn. It is not just for those who want to gain financially, but also for those who want to ensure that food will be on their table, because we believe that no one should go to bed hungry and that everyone deserves to consume healthy and nutritious foods.
