MESSAGE OF MP MAISARA ON PHILIPPINE ENVIRONMENT MONTH 2022
Assalamu alaykum warahmatollahi wabarakatoh.
Every month of June of every year, we celebrate Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 237 signed by then President Corazon Aquino on April 4, 1988. This is to give time and effort towards the protection, preservation, and enhancement of our environment. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Aksyon Para sa Natatanging Mundo #OnlyOneEarth”.
Annually, we are celebrating Environment Month and conduct activities that best help and heal our planet. Aksyon Para sa Natatanging Mundo #OnlyOneEarth is the campaign that calls for a collective and transformative action to celebrate, restore, and protect our Mother Earth. This is to give emphasis on the importance of taking good care and protecting our planet.
Many of us are not aware of how our planet faces various threats such as climate change, extinction of species, pollution that poisons the air, land, and water. These threats call for immediate and sustainable actions and must be done with the collaborative effort of all members of the stakeholders. Everyone must be responsive to the call of the environment. One must be able to give time and payback to our planet, to our environment.
In Islam, wasting of resources and destroying the environment is forbidden. The Prophet (SAW) ordered the Muslims not to cut trees during the war. He emphasized the conservation of the environment and the prevention of its destruction. Therefore, it is highly encouraged to conserve our environment as it is a duty to every Muslim. Environment protection is an important aspect of Islam. The religion is keen in protecting the environment with all its components by encouraging to create and do actions that our environment requires in order for it to be more preserved and protected.
WE ONLY HAVE ONE EARTH, either you take care of it or you lose it. But the best choice will always fall on the care, protection, and efforts in creating good and beautiful environment for all.
