September 30, 2021 | The Office of MP Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph attended in EU Gender Analysis in Mindanao: Presentation to Stakeholders through the EU Delegation to the Philippines and Strategia Development Research Institute (SDRI) Webinar via zoom.
The Strategy Development Research Institute with the support of the European Union had undertaken a Gender Analysis to ensure that programs were being implemented in Mindanao.
The purpose and main objective of the analysis were to ensure that programs being implemented in Mindanao adopt a gender lens and tackle gender inequalities and discrimination where needed to equally benefit girls, women, boys, and men.
Some of the conclusions are the followings:
– Robust set of policies but execution to the smallest government units still requires improvements
– Gender gaps exist in Mindanao across different sectors of society and the different key indicators of human development
– Conflict has a multiplier effect on gender imbalances
– Addressing gender gaps in Mindanao requires tackling various socio-cultural and socio-economic inequalities
Some of the Recommendations are:
– Improve the government’s gender data collection and reporting
– Capacity building on new tools that integrate gender
– Address traditional social norms that result in gender stereotyping
– Provide opportunities for the economic empowerment of women in agricultural value chains.
Therefore, there is a need to establish a mechanism to monitor the implementation of gender-based laws and policies.
