It has been 4 years when the siege happened in Marawi. May 23, 2017 in the afternoon, when the battle between military and ISIS-Inspired group begun. It has caused massive destruction of houses, business establishments, government offices, and other buildings. It put an end to some livelihoods were some Meranaws depend on to sustain their family’s daily needs.
Hundreds of people went missing and died during the siege. As to the record of casualties, 978 were militants killed, 12 militants captured,168 government forces killed, more than 1,400 forces wounded, 87 civilians died four of them died due to illness. Justice is the loud call of the families of missing and dead. It has been 4 years but sadness and sorrows still remain.
To hear the voices of these families, the office of MP Atty. Maisara Dandamun-Latiph joined the commemoration Day of Marawi Siege. OnMay 23, 2021, families of Missing and Dead were gathered to commemorate the Day of MarawiSiege. This program was dubbed as, “Remembering the Missing and Dead: a conversation with the Families of Missing and Dead During Marawi Siege in Aid of Legislation”.
