BTA Third Regular Session No. 59
June 16, 2021
Highlights:
Minority Leader MP Laisa Alamia delivered a privilege speech reaffirming the support of the minority and reaffirming that there is no division within the BTA-Parliament with respect to achieving the objectives of the BTA Parliament during the time of transition.
Many MPs asked clarificatory questions on the contents of the speech. It was referred to the Committee on Rules.
The plenary tackled PR 447 adopting a calendar of session for the Third Regular Session of the BTA Parliament.
Majority Leader Atty. Lanang Ali, Jr. discussed how there are sixty (60) days in a regular session.
Many MPs raised their concerns with regards to the timeline for the passage of the remaining priority bills. Specifically, MP Lorena raised the importance of setting the agenda of the BTA Parliament for the third regular session.
It was mentioned that the specific scheduling of the passage of the priority bills can be discussed in the Committee on Rules. The proposed calendar of session is just a reiteration of what is provided for in the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure.
The calendar would serve as a guide for the BTA Parliament moving forward. It was emphasized that there is a need to balance the committee hearings, public hearings, and plenary actions, as these were all necessary for the passage of resolutions and bills.
The plenary consolidated PRs 431, 432, 433, and 434, all resolutions expressing support for the Palestinian people and condemning the actions of the Israeli government. The consolidated resolution was treated as a simple resolution.
