The Office of MP Atty. Maisara C. Dandamun-Latiph conducted a consultation in aid of legislation concerning orphans to know more about the issues and challenges they face, and the individuals/institutions that support them; and to gather inputs and data in aid of legislation.
The Consultation started with the discussions by the two (2) invited speakers: Dr. Aleem Anwar Radiamoda, Sh.L discussed “Understanding Orphans and their Legal Rights in Islam”, and Prof. Tirmizy Abdullah, PhD discussed “A Rapid Needs Assessment of the Orphans in Muslim Mindanao”.
During the consultation proper, invited stakeholders and partners coming from various Organizations, Institutions, Offices, Madrasa, Torils, and Schools shared their insights about the issues, problems, gaps and challenges of orphans in our community, and gave their suggestions, recommendations, and solutions to the BARMM Government.
During the session, proposed BTA-Parliament Bill No. 71 or the Bangsamoro Orphanage Act 2020 filed by our office, was also introduced. Suggestions and recommendations were gathered from our invited stakeholders to improve the bill.
As MP Maisara stated during her welcome remarks, “One of the main priorities of our Office is our orphans. Many initiatives have been taken such as our Siyap Ko Wata-Ilo outreach program in home-based and center-based institutions within and outside the region, and others. But we believe that through participative and informative consultations like this, we can improve our services, seek to address the concerns of the orphans in giving them more equitable solutions and programs, and improve opportunities for them.”
Our Office would like to thank all of our speakers, stakeholders, and partners for their commitment and cooperation during the consultation.
We hope for Allah to guide and help us in bringing up the voices of the most vulnerable sectors to the appropriate ministries, agencies, and offices.
