a. BANGSAMORO EDUCATION CODE
The proponents of the Bangsamoro Education Code are likewise conducting public consultations all over the region to hear the proposals of all the stakeholders. In November, consultations were conducted in Island Provinces, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur simultaneously using online-teleconference.
MP Maisara Dandamun-Latiph is a member of the panel for the Lanao del Sur consultation wherein she invited experts from both the public and private sectors. She also invited representatives of Madaris and Shariah to shed light on the relevant proposal of their respective sectors.
On December 21, the Committee on Basic, Higher, and Technical Education conducted a committee meeting to hear the Panel Reports of the panels: Cluster (A) Maguindanao, Cluster (B) Lanao del Sur, and Cluster (C) BASULTA. The submitted reports consisted of a 227 page document, with a total of 69 policy papers. The Chairman asked the MPs present about what happened during the consultations. MP Maisara presented the panel report of Cluster (B), Lanao del Sur.
In preparation for the future Committee deliberations, MP Maisara has organized an Education Board to study the provisions of the proposed code and explore the possibility of introducing amendments to enhance the original draft.
During the finalization of the bill, MP Maisara submitted a sixty four (64) page amendments intended to enhance the final version. Most of the amendments were adopted and Minister Mohagher Iqbal, the proponent of the bill, acknowledged the invaluable participation not only in enhancing the bill but also throughout the deliberations both at the committee and plenary level.
